European Travel Info

If you are travelling to Europe on your motorcycle it is important to be aware of the laws that exist in the countries you may pass through, some of which may not be obvious, some a bit surprising. This guide is based on current (June 2013) information provided by the AA and RAC and is by no means exhaustive but we hope will be of use if touring Europe on your motorbike.

  • Insurance certificate
  • GB (or Euro) Sticker/Number plate

*UNECE Regulation 22 permits contracting parties (countries) to require helmets to be fitted with reflective material visible from the front, rear, left and right and lays down the specification with which the material and its location must comply.

All helmets worn in France must meet the reflective material requirements of Regulation 22 - a sticker of minimum surface area 18 cm2 must be visible from the front, rear, left and right and within each sticker it must be possible to mark either a circle of 40 mm diameter or, a rectangle at least 12.5 cm2 in surface area and at least 20 mm in width.
